Session Descriptions

The Next BIG thing; Umbraco 4

Niels Hartvig, Per Ploug Hansen

Join Umbraco Founder Niels Hartvig and Umbraco Guru Per as they reveal all the hot new features of Umbraco 4. With a feature complete version at Codegarden US, this will be the first official tour of all the exciting innovation that makes Umbraco the next big thing and you'll experience it all straight from the horse’s mouth. And, as always, they’ll have some surprises up their sleeves.

Managing Umbraco Team Development and Deployment with Courier

NHNiels Hartvig

Team development in mixed-environments (PC/Mac) for a CMS solution doesn't have to hurt. Umbraco founder Niels Hartvig will show how to efficiently develop and deploy umbraco solutions using Visual Studio, version control systems and Courier. You'll see how this effective combination makes it possible to debug efficiently using Visual Studio, update a production environment with new functionality in a secure way and how to make sure your development environments are always in sync with your production site.

XSLT Tips

Casey Neehouse

Stumped by something in XSLT?  We have all been there, and struggled to figure out how to do something that should be so simple.  In this session, you will be presented with a variety of tips that can help you while working with XSLT in umbraco.  Tips such as how to group results efficiently, paging results effectively, and how to add you own custom extension to XSLT. Be sure to bring your XSLT questions, as we will save time to answer a few good questions at the end of the session as time allows.

Flash and Umbraco Integration

Bob Baty-Barr

Have you ever wanted to include cool little flash elements in your Umbraco sites but thought to yourself, ‘but they will have to be updated manually’ or ‘but I have no idea how to code in flash and I don’t even have the application’? In this session we will explore great resources for acquiring dynamic flash elements and how to produce the correct output from Umbraco to feed those applications. We will look at dynamic video players, image rotators and news tickers.

Content Sharing for Fun and Profit – A White Label* Case Study

Douglas Robar

This session will review a recent project to deploy umbraco content as a white label solution within another companies’ website, from concepts to code. Site architecture, design issues, macros, performance enhancements and other issues will be discussed and the live site demonstrated.

*A white label product or service is a product or service produced by one company that other companies rebrand to make it appear as if they made it.

Definition 6 Presents a Large-Scale Case Study

Definition 6

Definition 6 will present an animated discussion of the challenges in implementing the large scale site:  www.gables.com

A Lap Around Umbraco in the Cloud

cloudPaul Sterling

You can hardly swing a short-club without hitting a reference to cloud computing these days.  This session will tour an Umbraco instance running in the cloud and discuss some of the scenarios, current and future, cloud computing enables for Umbraco.

And more to be presented informally as part of the Open Space Day 2:

Creating Data Aware Umbraco Macros FAST with SubSonic and .NET User Controls
